Araina painted this cute little singing bird with her watercolor paints.

Then she made him come to life by using an old yellow sweater, felt and a needle.

Pretty good stitches I must say, especially with being only 7 years old.

I had to make one too, but mine is a baby rooster.

learning to unicycle

Fauna has always been good at balance- she walked at 9 months, learned to 2 wheel in only a matter of minutes, the pogo stick was a piece of cake, and now her newest balance challenge- the unicycle.
She uses Darwin (our car) to help her get on the unicycle-

She pedals, finds her balance, gets in the correct posture-

Then lets go of Darwin and YIPEE! she does it!

Then down she goes, falling the “right” way thank goodness-

Only to try and try again! This kid doesn’t give up and will continue to keep at it until she is a pro!

Now to figure out a way to cushion that seat for her!

Araina has spent the weekend making “gifts” for the kitties in our family.
They loved the jingle toy made of a tp tube, jingle bells, paper, tape and yarn-

They loved the kitty dish made of bright red legos-

Charm was the only one that would put up with the cape-

He even chased the husky out of living room while wearing his “Super Charm” cape- he really looked the part!

Now, I’m afraid dressing him as a gnome was a little too much for Charm; talk about a twitching tail!

Oh, the humiliation!

Pixie (below), the other “inkspot” in our family, would take no part in the costumes; she ran and hid when she saw Araina coming her way with the green gnome hat! She is now encouraging Charm to contact a lawyer to sue for the posting of these pictures.

I dared Fauna to kiss the “first toad of Spring-”

Now being 8 years old, you can’t let a dare go by……..

She did it and he actually winked at the camera!

Ok, so he’s no prince, but he’s no frog either!

Now Araina, do you dare?

Of course Rainy did not dare, but she kind of tried!

spring has sprung

I have a love/hate relationship with Spring; I find it the hardest season to get through due to the fickleness of the weather. Sure I LOVE the beautiful days and inhale the warm rays of the sun; but when the next day is grey and cold, I’m left feeling the same way. The weather was so wonderful and perfect last week, we just wanted to be outside with friends (and chatting in the kitchen over coffee and homemade goodies). Here’s a peek of what we have been up to-

We did some paper dyeing on Friday using coffee and tea. I love to dye paper. I’m planning to try with many different plants this Spring to acheive many different colors of paper- berries, dandelions, and cabbage are next on the list to try.

Araina brought me the first bouquet of the year.

Outdoor tea parties were a big thing over the weekend!

We’ve been trying to ID this black chrysalis Fauna found while climbing our Scarlet Maple. We think it’s some sort of moth pupa.

I finally got a little creative on Sunday after a week of not sewing. See the little tree house in the pic below? I’m going to make bigger ones using sweaters and felt for the Hootenannies to live in.

Here’s a winky-eyed bunny I’ve been working on for the past couple of days, she must have a little something in her eye! I still need to add her arms and a tail.

On a side note, with all the bickering and politics going on right now I have to leave with this message from Araina-

If only it were that simple!
