Tomorrow we are leaving for Virginia to celebrate 100. 100 years of age that is, my Great Aunt Curt turns 100 on Monday. She was born on February 15, 1910, can you imagine? Here she is in the 40′s, around 34 years old (this is the invitation done by my sister Katrina and her husband)-

She loves geraniums, she still plants them every spring. I thought a geranium brooch would be a good gift for her.

The little ladies and I spent a big part of the afternoon today making 100 paper birds to hang for the party.

Valentines were also made for the family we will be seeing.

I just love the simplicity of this one-

As a celebration, in honor of Curt, I’m doing an owl softie giveaway. Oh, how I would love to give away 100 owls, but can’t quite do that!

Brown-eyed Girl and Gold Finger are already taken BUT……..

This poor blue abominable is wondering………

“Where’s the snow?”

“I have seen it in Virginia, Maine, Wisconsin, Iowa and many other places……but not here where little ladies are begging for it.”

“Please share your snow.”

*This little guy is a special gift for Araina; he was made from a sweater she has outgrown. Who knew that ugly fuzzy sweaters could make such a great abominable?!?!? He was inspired by the Yeti Club where the slogan is “be nice to Yetis.”

This is Whitman the bookworm, he is a special Solstice gift for one of the little ladies. When he’s not quietly reading poetry by the fire, I have to keep a good eye on him-

he seems to be quite the ladies’ man! SMOOCH!

There has been A LOT of hand sewing going on over here (especially by Araina)! Gushing mommy moment……no patterns and no direction by me. Have a look:

Fauna started a weekly sewing class yesterday. She is so excited to learn how to use the sewing machine (and excited to teach me). Her first project is a backpack; what shocks me is the color of fabric she chose. “Bye bye pink!” she said. What is it with turning 8? She no longer thinks she’s a little girl……….(sigh).

felt fairy house (wip)

This little felt house is not a WIP exactly, because it’s already done. However, I will be making a couple more for the Little Ladies come holiday time. I made this fairy house 5 years ago for Fauna’s wee folk. I LOVED making wee folk back then but grew a little tired of wrapping chenille stems with floss and had to take a break. Lately, the girls have been asking for more. Fauna wants a fairy family (I can’t believe I haven’t made a fairy set, I was obsessed with trees at the time and made a maple family, oak family and sweet gum family) and Araina wants a ladybug family. So it’s time, once again, to start wrapping chenille stems and to dig out the pattern I made for this little house.

I loved designing this little house with the leaf roof and the flowers growing on the sides. My handsewing skills have really improved since 5 years ago so the whole process of the wee folk and the felt house should come easier this time around.
