About

IMG_5721I am a stay at home, nature lovin,’ felt lovin,’ vegetarian earth mama! I have two lovely daughters, a hard-working husband and lots of animals- turtles, cats and dogs. We love the outdoors and nature…which inspire us daily. I have a BA from Ohio State University and my Masters of Arts in Teaching from Mary Baldwin College. I have taught elem. ed. and preschool for about 20 years in schools and parks, my focus has always been science and env. ed. I have a great love of herbs and their medicinal qualities, have been studying them for a long time and continue to learn all I can about them. I have been asked numerous times how I have raised such nature lovin’ and creative little ladies. This site is dedicated to those questions, this is how I do it!

IMG_2301 This is Araina (6yo), she is the spice in the family (although she has a lot of sugar as well). She is an animal lover and the animals adore her right back. She definitely has the magic touch with them. She is always singing, making up rhymes, dancing and making people laugh. Her favorite colors are blue and orange and she collects owls. Help us because she is a natural born flirt.

IMG_1961 This is Fauna (7yo almost 8), she is my little fairy that is always doing magical things around the house. Her favorite place to go when she needs peace is into our back field. She is my little herbalist, she is always making medicinal teas to drink when she is not feeling well and healing lotions for cuts and bruises. She loves to get dirty and play in the mud.  Her favorite colors are pink and red and she collects horses. You may not see her in the posts as much because she is starting to become annoyed with the “crazy lady with the camera!” She has her own website called 3 Black Inkspots.

SDC10845 You probably won’t see the hubby (Dave) on the site. He doesn’t like his photo taken and posted for “the world” to see. He is a wonderful hubby, daddy and provider. He works very hard to allow me to stay home with the Little Ladies. He works in computers and LOVES anything soccer.

Untitled-2 Our gorgeous dogs . Denali, the husky, is 9yo and would run wherever the wind blows if we let him; he talks to us with quite a neat dog vocabulary. He doesn’t bark, he howls and yowls. Sophie, the german shep., is 2yo. She scares strangers away with her vicious bark, especially the guy that reads the electric meter! However, she is the most loving family dog and has the sweetest spirit.

Lisa, I have a request! :) I’d love to see a post with some pictures of your favorite areas in your house. I loved the post of your table full of nature supplies, and always love getting glimpses of your pots or herbs, drying leaves, etc. I need some inspiration for bringing nature indoors. I am so happy to have found your blog, and find something inspiring in every post.

Just wanted to let you know we’ve had great fun this afternoon reading your various dandelion posts – and have linked to them from http://www.playingbythebook.net/2009/11/12/the-overconsumption-of-dandelions/ where we’ve just reviewed a fun kids’ picture book about dandelions.
    Thanks for all the inspiration!

I just found your site–having been directed here from another. As I wandered through, I thought that you HAD to be a home schooler. Well, I guess all parents are home schoolers to some extent–some just more than others.

So many things here that are along the lines I things I did with my sons when we were learning at home. I wish your site had been around then. There are so many great ideas here for learning about life through our own environment. One of my greatest joys learning with my kids was gaining knowledge about our own surroundings. We studies our wildflowers, trees, rivers, ponds, woods, local history, and industry in depth. What a wonderful base on which to build a real understanding of the world. You have two lucky children there. Way to go!
