olympia de luxe manual typewriter

So funny what the little ladies find as a novelty; I remember pecking away at one of these manual typewriters for high school papers. I remember saying not very nice things when I hit the wrong key, then dragging out the correction tape, oh the horror! So why is it that when I found this little beauty at the thrift store on Saturday I was sooooo delighted?

Araina can’t keep her hands off it; we have gotten love letters, a circle yes or no questionnaire, and the cats had tea party invitations typed out on the De Luxe.

What makes the De Luxe even more whimsical to me is that it types in cursive…..not print! Araina spent a lot of the day wishing for snow. The paper is now taped to the front window, she thinks this might help bring the snow.

Gotta love the simple things in life!

That is so cool! I didn’t know there was a type writter that typed in cursive.

I love it and CAN”T believe it types cursive – what a lovely surprise.

I got my first typewriter for my 8th birthday, and I have an old one sitting downstairs in storage. This post really brings memories of how much I loved typing away at that thing! I may need to bring out that old one, dust it off, and give it a go! :)

This brings back alot of memories. I loved typing in high school, took two years of it and was even entered in a regional speed contest in my junior year. I also remember using one in my first job for maybe the first 3-5 years until computers came on the scene.

Ha, i can just picture my girls taking the typewriter possibilities to the edge, like your girls.
I have had my eye out for one forever, ut have yet to come across one that’s affordable. I think this is the year ;)

I’m with your Araina, twice over: love the old typewriters, and keeping fingers crossed for snow.

Tomorrow looks likely; hopefully we’ll both get our load!

If so, perhaps it’s time to pull out my (much less romantic) grad school app typewriter. Yes, yes, I do believe…

What a fun way to learn!

How much fun is that for them! All I remember from the typewriter days is making mistakes and not being able to realign my paper again to continue typing.

Love that … I’ve been wanting one for “me” but know that my girls would love it as well …. :)

What a beauty. We found one at a yard sale recently-but it doesn’t type in CURSIVE. I’m convinced the only reason I can type at all is the hours spent playing on my Mom’s typewriter when I was a kid. I need to get correction tape (they do still make it, right?) and let my son tap away!

Well, typing randomly must be good. In order to learn the keys on a Royal or Underwood typewriter, I had to have the keys covered so I wouldn’t look!!!! I don’t know the Olympic – this one looks like a portable????

The nostalgia of an old typewriter. I used to type all the time on my parent’s one that was attached to their desk…it had it’s own roll out drawer that was made for it.

I’ve been wanting to get an old typewriter for a while now. I think Isaac would L.O.V.E. it.

And for the record, I too used a word processor in college. The laptap I am typing on right now is literally my first computer. (I’ve always just shared someone else’s.) :)

    Ah ha! Snap! http://boysinthewoods.blogspot.com/2011/01/christmas-was.html
We gave our 6 yr old one for Christmas and he loves it. He leaves us interesting notes and sheets of sums all over the place.

I’ve never seen one that types in cursive! Now I “need” one!

How funny, I just got out my father’s old Olympia typewriter for my kids to use this weekend. They had so much fun. My daughter loved it best, but is still learning to read so her lines were mostly typing random keys or family members’ names. I’d love a sweet little note or tea party invitation.

Ooooo that’s awesome. We have one typewriter and now I’m on the hunt for another one. That’s so cool to type in cursive.

Oh I also typed up my college essays on a typewriter. There was a lot of wasted paper and correction tape.

I love old typewriters! They bring back so many fun childhood memories! (Probably cause I never had to write my high school papers on one…)
