pinecone owls

2011 January 1
by 5 Orange Potatoes

I love challenging the little ladies with Nature’s bounty. I brought our collection of pinecones, acorn caps, osage orange roots, leaves, and thistle down to the craft table and told them to make something using only those materials (glue was allowed). Pinecone owls are what came from the challenge.

Now they line the windowsill in the craft room.

“That’s all.”

What a great idea. So wrapped up (no pun intended) with Christmas, that I’ve squirrelled away (now I can’t stop!) all the boxes full of nature things. Time to get them out again. Decorations will be down soon and there are going to be some bare spaces.

    I’ve missed your nature inspiration.

    Happy New Year!

When I was a kid we spent the summer weekends up in the mountains and this is exactly the thing we did. We would take all the natural materials and make little animals out of pine cones and things. It was so much fun. Happy New Year!
