thicket outdoor game and skunk plush

2010 September 29
The next time you are in a woodland setting with a group of children try a game of thicket.

(photo taken by my sister Katrina)

Thicket

1. This game is very similar to hide and seek, it is best played in a woodland environment.
2. One person is the seeker and has to keep one foot in the same spot during the entire game. They can move up and down and stretch their body out but they cannot move that one foot!!!
3. The seeker then closes her eyes and counts to 15…slowly.
4. Everyone else goes and hides. But they have to see the seeker with two eyes.
5. The seeker opens her eyes and looks around. She calls out everyone she can see.
6. If after a while the seeker finds all the hiders she can see, but hasn’t found them all,  she closes her eyes again and counts to 5. The players hiding have 5 seconds to move 5 steps closer to the seeker. Make certain they move closer rather than farther away.
7. The seeker opens her eyes and looks around again. This continues until all of the hiders have been found. The last one found is the new seeker.

Advice: Pick a spot for the students to sit once they have been found and be sure to let them know that they are not allowed to help the seeker.

A sleepy skunk makes for a horrible seeker and the poor thing is easy to find by his, uh-em, odor.

“That’s all.”

That sounds like an interesting game, I’m going to have to remember it! I like how the hiding kids are really competing against each other, rather than against the seeker.

Another new game to add to my list. It will be interesting to see how the children try to hide while keeping two eyes on the seeker. I’m assuming that they are not allowed to wear camoflague and use war paint.
