dreamin’ and wishin’ or maybe make it true?

2010 August 12
by 5 Orange Potatoes

Being a one car family, I am salivating because this little beauty is for sale in my neighborhood.

My heat hurts a little…….hmmmm, if there’s a will, there’s a way!

Araina found it to be a little crazy, but felt it would be ”great fun!”

Dad and Grandaddy, you don’t need to be calling me and telling how “impractical” it is. You both know me……. :) Besides, I blame you two for my love of old and unique cars!

“That’s all.”

I am SOOOO rooting for you. Practical, schmactical…

  2. August 22, 2010

Ok, I would settle for a squareback, fastback or a bug :)

  3. August 22, 2010

When I was young, I knew that I wanted a VW bug when I grew up. My first car was a VW bug. And I was just thinking that if I won the lottery, the first thing I would do is buy an old VW van. Ok, the funny thing is that my husband drove a VW bug when we met. : )

  4. August 17, 2010

Looks like it’s in incredibly good shape. Go for it!

  5. August 17, 2010

It’s easy to see you driving that beauty, Lisa!

  6. August 16, 2010

Ok…if you don’t I will! And, I’m within driving distance to get it! :)

I LOVE the vans. I’ve never seen one in such good condition either.

I grew up in VW’s and my first 3 cars were too! I’ve wanted one forever (vintage, not new) and my hubby surprised me with a Routan this year! It may not be vintage, it may not be a convertible, but I LOVE it! I say go for it, the yellow is BEAUTIFUL! I’m drooling just looking at it :) !

  9. August 15, 2010

hey I love it, there’s a green and purple one in my neighborhood without an engine I’m trying to ignore…check out thesumba.com for vw info. i grew up in a bus and besides my brother falling out of the back once on the streets of san francisco, we had a good time!
    -good luck, love the blog!

  18. August 13, 2010

How cool! I would not be able to resist either. I say go for it if you can. :) I’m a bit on the impractical side myself. And what a great color! I see some memory making potential in that buggy for you and the girls. Keep us posted!

oooh, tasty! We live near the North Devon coast, UK, and there are literally hundreds of these everywhere (very surfey area). Mostly old rust buckets living so near the sea, but that one looks like it has been well kept.

We had an old VW LT (like that but BIGGER!) that we were renovating, but the farm we had it at got sold and we didn’t have anywhere else to put it so we had to sell it (sob). She was called Myrtle and she was purple.

There is nothing quite like going to the beach or the moor and coming back to your veichle and making a fresh cup of tea!

  20. August 13, 2010

I love it! Go for it! Tell your husband and father that its my fault…

  21. August 13, 2010

I can’t say I want a VW van, but I do hope for a vehicle with some personality next time. That mustard hue is so very fun! My kids wish we’d buy a motor home. Somehow, my Aria was born a traveler.

  22. August 13, 2010

This is too darn cute! What a perfectly cheerful way to get around town

  23. August 13, 2010

This i too darn cute! What a perfectly cheerful way to get around town

  24. August 13, 2010

That’s the exact color and make of VW bus that my grandma and grandpa had when I was growing up. I have fond memories of riding around in it. We drove halfway across the country once in it and my grandma stocked a couple of ice chests full of goodies! I hope you get your dream. :)

  25. August 13, 2010

I would LOVE to be tooling around town in this!!! That’s wonderful!

i had a vw van with the pop up bed feature. had a little stove and spot for food. when my children were all small, my bff and her two kids and i went all over in it! i adored it. we could pack extra changes of clothes for 5 kids, have light meals and go places we could have never grown as a group otherwise. it saved us soooo much money! so if you need another push towards making this manifest, here it is. it is an econominical investment, and also so earth friendly in the fact it is an old vehicle to you are reducing the inherent carbon footprint of a new vehicle, reusing, and recycling this beauty into a new life as a way to go more places comfortably with your gang:)

  27. August 13, 2010

I LOVE it!! Hope you can make it happen!

  28. August 13, 2010

This post brought a smile to my face! (It is gray, gray, gray, here with the impending rain.) I think you should go for it. How incredibly fun.

My son absolutely loves cars. (Okay, maybe only “fast” ones.) But he particularly loves those with a bright yellow shine. I think it is because my brother in law’s Jeep was bumble-bee yellow. But a warning about yellow. Bees may like your vehicle. It happened to my BIL’s Jeep all the time. Bees buzzed close by all the time thinking it was a giant flower! The only down-side is that I am allergic to bees. Other than that, bee-yellow would be my choice color too!

  29. August 13, 2010

    Go on, Make it true!!!!

Imagine the fun! Its just lovely.

  30. August 13, 2010

I encourage you to go for it! I just love that vw. The color is fantastic as well.

  31. August 13, 2010

Oh goodness she’s beautiful…. sunshine yellow….. I subscribe to you and before I looked online to see the picture I just *knew* it was an old vw. My hubby drives his to work when it’s raining…. otherwise he bikes or jogs. Having a vintage vehicle is like having 1.5 cars… lol. But they are easy to repair and so much fun…… she looks like she’s been very loved (no rust) a little warning though…. we got our first bus 10 years ago and have not been without one since…. for awhile we even had a little vw bug too! Happy dreaming :)

  32. August 13, 2010

I have always wanted a VW van but a bright canary yellow one at that!! well that is just magic!

  33. August 13, 2010

I love it !!! But, what kind of vehicle will consume much of gasoil …

  34. August 13, 2010

reminds me of the van in Little Miss Sunshine.

  35. August 13, 2010

We have one of these…boring white instead of funky yellow. Ours is jam packed with kids!!! It would be a very squashed road trip, but it is great for getting my little crowd from A to B…

  36. August 13, 2010

Oooo. I’ve always wanted one. I would set up a craft studio in the back and drive cross country to all the craft fairs. May be impractical, but it would be fun!

  37. August 12, 2010

Oh, we went down the same slippery slope, 1 car family, beautiful Westy for sale…. we now own the Westy, but sadly it is not running well enough for us to use. It’s a work in progress that we look forward to adventuring in, someday. The one you’ve found is so bright & beautiful.

  38. August 12, 2010

LOVE it. We only have one car too…I’d totally trade it in for a VW though. Not so sure Fred would be on board though. :)

  39. August 12, 2010

I think I just fell in love. *swoon*

  40. August 12, 2010

Its adorable! Hope you’re able to get this little baby parked in your driveway.

That is just so hilarious because I was just looking at vw vans today on kijji ! I so want the van from little miss sunshine but here in Canada I doubt I will find it .
I found a 1973 poptop white camper though . now if the universe will send me $6,000 I’m set ☺ our kids would love it
You are so blessed I so hope you went for it ;-)

  44. August 12, 2010

How adorable! I would love one of these. We are a 1 car family too..and that VW would be so fun to get around with. My husband would probably never be caught riding in it or driving it, but I would LOVE it and my kids would to!!
Hope your dreams come true ;)

Ooh, not impractical at all! Very fun indeed. Road trip!!

Oh, it would be great! Can’t afford one myself, even pre-owned but keep trying to win one in every competition I can find. So beautiful in yellow, just makes me smile :-) ) You deserve it! Go on…

  47. August 12, 2010

VW’s are far from impractical … lol. They are quite simple & great on gas. Of course that’s coming from a VW enthusiast with 3 in her driveway at the moment :) This yellow one is a beauty! And you’re right, where there’s a will, there’s a way …

  48. August 12, 2010

Ugh, that’s one of my dream vehicles! I want one with a pop up camper air vent thingy :)
