in the garden- outdoor monday
Araina was busy in the garden today harvesting peas and lettuce. We have had so much rain, humidity, and thunderstorms around here lately that things are growing out of control! I have so many herbs to harvest before they start bolting. I’m so behind this year!!!

Newton, the box turtle, has been exploring new places to rest; here’s the back of him sticking out of a terra-cotta pot-

And here’s the front of him peeking out of the drainage hole- good shot of his nostrils!

We have had 3 perfectly formed black swallowtails emerge from their chrysalids; they had overwintered on our porch.

Fauna and her friend Natalie did a little fort building; well, Natalie did most of the building, Fauna just wasn’t into it this time around.

The street fair went well; I sold a lot of hootenannies and pocket pals. The hedgehogs were a huge hit and stopped people in their tracks.
A young lady who owns a coffee shop asked if I would be willing to sell them in her shop, she likes to sell handmade goodies along with coffee- perfect combination if you ask me! The weather wasn’t so good with it being very hot and humid with a lot of morning downpours of rain. Fauna came with me and fell asleep with a chair for a pillow; poor baby. HA! She was not impressed with the porta-potty situation, she told me that she would have enjoyed the fair more if it weren’t for those “stinky and disgusting bathrooms!”

I’m continuing to sew, feeling really inspired lately and hoping to attend some more handmade fairs in the upcoming months- I’m working on a star-nosed mole, rats (mice), and new owls. To those of you who have been inquiring about the hedgehogs- I will be updating my etsy shop soon with some new hootenannies and hedgehogs.
If you are participating in Outdoor Challenge Mondays, be sure your blog link is below; if you still want to participate let me know and I’ll add you to the list.

I am super impressed that you brought your girls to the show with you! And I CANNOT wait to see the star nosed mole!
How wonderful to have such a fresh and full garden, it looks like everyone, including the turtle, are ejoying it.
What a cute little Newton you have there! haha! I love it!
And, I vote with Fauna on the porta-potty situation…I try to always Just Say No!
Erika loves hedgehogs! Are they posted in your etsy shop yet? Also, thanks for “following” erika, that made her day! I’d love to set a date for end of june or july to let the girls play and we could catch up! Talk to you soon!
I love that little turtle face peaking out. I’m so glad the street fair went so well. Enjoy your garden and all of the beautiful nature around you.
What a great little helper you have there
I wish we had a good place in our yard for a garden! I just have a couple of tomatoes and a few herbs in pots. I haven’t done an Outdoor Challenge post this week, but here are my two most recent ones:

Have a blessed week!
Love the pictures of your spring greens…we are planting winter root vegetables down under..
We’ve been out and about a bit over the last few weeks, making the most of it between showers and before baby number two arrives and things get chaotic.

I know what you mean about being behind in the garden…looks like it’s doing pretty good without you though. Enjoy your fresh goodies.
Oh my goodness, I don’t know who is cuter…Fauna or Newton!
What a wonderful time to live where you do! I wish I was eating from my garden already!
I can’t wait for our peas to be ready! Looks like a great day for you guys . . . love the fort.
Our outdoor challenge of the week took place a bit farther afield (or aforest?) from home . . . http://www.wideopencampus.com/?p=621.
No surprise the fair went so well for you!! Even if there were those stinky and disgusting bathrooms. Fauna is right, they are not cool! Fauna asleep on the chair is just too sweet!
happy Tuesday!

love the basket of lettuce photo. what a sweet girl!
Turtle nostrils!! I did a triple-take
I recently found your blog and have been loving reading about you and your family! I would love to start participating in the Outdoor Challenge! We put our garden in today (we are in the pacific northwest and have had a ton of rain this year, so it is a bit later than normal), but I had my hands in the dirt too much to snap pictures of my kiddos helping out. We also strive to get our kids outdoors each day. Thanks for a great blog!
Sounds like the fair went well. Yea!!! Your garden looks lush and wonderful — now if you could just use everything all at once.
have fun with your herbs, summer is a busy time! xx
Congratulations! I’m glad you are such a creative success–I knew you would be! I’ve been posting TONS about being outdoors & nature stuff…so, I don’t have a specific link to post for Outdoor Monday! LOL
What a busy week! I love the photo of your girls building a fort — I remember doing that with my sister when we were growing up! What wonderful memories they’re making together.
Here’s my post for the week: http://semicrunchymama.wordpress.com/2010/06/14/ocm-earthworms/
I am so glad you had a successful show! You creatures are darling! I have 3 turtles in my pre-k classroom and my kids just love them! I am a little confused on how to post on the Outdoor Challenge…could you help me out with instructions? Thanks!
I love the photos that you take of your children. They are so lovely!
I have something for you at my blog. Please stop by and check it out!

Love the turtle! He must love his adventures.
Happy Outdoor Monday!

Yay…I’m remembering to post.
Our peas aren’t doing much right now as they don’t like A LOT of moisture…and we’ve had TONS. The plant part is all turning brown. Between the rain and the birds eating the peas right out of the pods…I’m not impressed.
Our lettuce is slow too – but I’ve seperated it all out and given it some more room…so hopefully we’ll have a bunch soon. The spinach all bolted already. So sad.
LOVE Newton and that butterfly. How awesome to watch that.
Great fort making. Love the space you have there.
Glad to hear about the fair as well. Your handmade goodies ROCK! xo

The butterfly is beautiful! I’m envious of the lettuce. It’s too hot for lettuce here right now.

I love Newton stickin’ out.
Congratulations on your success at the fair!
