decatur trip- art, music, and food
Hi everybody, I’m still here, just having trouble finding the time to blog this week. We had a great time in Decatur, Georgia! I was a little worried when we first pulled into Atlanta though, we went into a grocery store where a jar of pickled pigs’ feet had shattered all over the floor; that was gross, stinky, and I can’t imagine ever finding that appetizing. Oh well, to each his own. My friend Kendra did pretty well selling her gorgeous bags-

No, she doesn’t have a shop online, but I’m trying to get her to open one!
The art show was fun and we met some really cool artists (Su Abbott) and heard some amazing African Percussion by Sehwe. If you are ever in the Atlanta area you must SEE this amazing group perform; their energy is very uplifting.

One of my favorite booths at the art show was by Georgia artist James Dean. The subject of his art is a cat named Pete- aka Pete the Cat. The print on the left below, is titled Bug Squasher and I laugh everytime I look at it. The print on the right is titled Pete with Frida, from the series Pete and the Masters; I especially love this one because Frida Kahlo is a favorite artist of mine.

Click here to see more of Pete the Cat and James Dean.
Pete the Cat also has his own book (Araina is getting this book for her birthday)- click here to see the book.
The food in Atlanta was yummy, starting with the lavender martinis ;) and ending with the Greek lemon roasted garlic potatoes (I made these last night, they were good but needed more lemon). I’m finding myself loving Greek food lately. Anyone have any recommendations for a good Greek cookbook that a vegetarian could find useful?
Not related to the trip, but another talented artist, is Becca from Chocolate Eyes . She is having a giveaway to introduce her new shop Mama West Wind. To enter click here.

Nature swap update- seems I’ve bitten off more than I can chew lately; I promise to get your partners sent to you this weekend.
I’m in the middle of organizing my house and “studio” lately, sewing hedgehogs and softies for an upcoming street fair, and we are also having company this weekend so I may not be around the bloggy world for a while.
“That’s all.”

What a fun time. Love the purses. and the Frida picture (I’m too a fan)
glad your trip was a success. Now, to plan for your own show!
This IS a busy time of year, isn’t it? You have earned yourself a well deserved blogging break!
Those bags are beautiful – I just love art fairs – thank you for sharing so much inspiration.
Warm wishes.
We love Pete the Cat! Glad he is still around, and I’m glad your trip went well. We finished our raised bed project finally and now we are mostly planting and mulching. Here are some pictures: http://www.gsheller.com/2010/06/very-consuming-garden.html
and I am hosting a giveaway through tomorrow evening if you are interested

We like roasting a huge pan full of chicken portions with potatoes, lemon wedges, garlic, herbs, coarse sea salt and freshly ground black pepper. Sometimes we roast a whole chicken on huge bunches of rosematy, sage and thyme sprinkled with fat garlic cloves. it’s yummy.
It looks like a great time. I love the Pete the Cat art. Frida is also one of my favorite female artists.
Even though it is officially rainy season here in Miami, we have been sneaking outings.

Those bags are fabulous!!! Glad you had a good time in GA!
Beautiful and colorful bags!
Those bags are beautiful! She should definitely open a shop online.
I don’t think I realized you would be in Georgia. You know, a few of us really ought to try and meet up when you are on some of these trips! (ahem, Sherry and Kari)!
L-O-V-E that book. My husband sings and plays guitar so this will be an awesome book to read to my two girls!
Glad you had a good time in Decatur. Love all the artists you introduced.
Blessings
Diane
Loved the reading of the book – Araina will have fun with that, as will you all. Think I’ll look for it for our grandchildren, but I also will show them the video because the singing and audience participation are so much fun.
I love Greek food, too – especially this time of year when the intense fresh flavors are so welcome.
Umm, I love Greek food, I don’t really have a good suggestion for a cookbook, but love this vegetarian recipe – http://allrecipes.com/Recipe/Spinach-and-Rice-Spanakorizo/Detail.aspx, My kids love it too.
I really like that Pete the cat picture with the VW. My first car was a VW bug, and it often had a cat on it, since my sister and I fed all the neighborhood strays. I would like to spend more time in Atlanta. The aquarium there is awesome!
Sounds like some full days with lots of wonderfulness.
Sounds like a fun trip, except for the pig’s feet! Your friend’s bag are so bright and colorful, and I love Pete the Cat. What a cutie! I would like to go to Georgia some day, I hear it is quite beautiful.
Your trip sounds like so much fun! Love those bags!!! Truly beautiful, yes, your friend has to open an online store.
Thank you so much for featuring my Papa Plum, I’ve already had a few people come my way from this post. Thanks so much!
Becca
You sound very busy indeed! Here’s to you getting all done that you need to, and enjoying you company!
Oh my goodness, I lived in Atlanta and loved it so much. Being from Boston, and growing up in California, I would not have thought so, but I did.
So glad that you had a nice time, and enjoy this time getting back to your summer rhythm
Your friend makes beautiful bags!
Thank you Lisa! You brought me back to Gambia
