our day and friday’s flowers
The warm sun finally came out today after a week of cold, gray days; it felt great to open the windows wide, do some spring cleaning, and enjoy the day. I started the day by making soy-berry-flaxseed smoothies, peanut butter cookies, and hummus.
I was excited to grab my basket and fill it with the first herbal harvest of the season- bee balm, chocolate mint, and rose petals (for rose petal jam).

A lot of time was spent lugging houseplants (aloe, succulents, and scented geraniums) outside to the front porch so they could spend the warm weather outside. I will keep them out there until the fall frost. They seem to explode in size thanks to the warm humid Ohio summers.

Still catching up on the washing, can’t let a good drying day go to waste! I picked up these beautiful vintage sheets at a thrift store a little while back, ugh, they smelled of moth balls! A few vinegar baths and a dry in the warm sun took care of that nasty smell. If you hang your wash on a line (indoors or out) and like sharing pictures of this lovely domestic task, visit Gardenmama for her Wash Wednesday posts.

I picked some roses and mint for my Friday’s Flowers bouquet, hosted by Renee at FIMBY. This “challenge” is simply sharing a bouquet of flowers on Fridays.

Araina and Emma spent a lot of time today on the front porch building sand castles and fighting off big sisters that wanted to smash down those sand castles. HA! The big sisters didn’t forsee the little sister power- karate kicks and screaming were the weapons of choice!

Did some admiring of Ohio’s beauty. I couldn’t help myself, I had to pull the car over and take a picture of this beautiful field full of Ragwort.

We spent the end of the day at the creek with Sybil, Emma, and Natalie. Catching up with dear friends is my favorite way to end the day!

“That’s all.”

Loving the beauties on the line and the flowers in the honey jar.
I’m saving my next honey jar for flowers! I love it! Beth
I ran across this site [ http://www.gardeningbythemoon.com/phases.html ] today after talking with my SIL about planting by the moon. I had not heard about it before but have enjoyed seeing the moon phases on your site. Just thought it was interesting and wanted to share.
that last picture looks like a little slice of heaven. what fun playing by the creek!
What do you do with bee balm? I’m sure it SOMETHING good…
Your aloe looks great! Our aloe is out all year long here in Florida but it’s a bit on the brown side these days. I think I’ve been over watering it. I’m not that good with succulents. I really like to water my plants.

What a wonderful day that you all had. It just feels so nice to step into this early warthm and sunshine. I swear, I become a totally person when the warmth arrives after a long winter
And that is a lot! What a beautiful day:)….My Noah would love to come live with you for a week– this summer we’re starting a whole subject of schooling on plant/herb/flower uses. Oh, and our favorite smoothies of the moment are of the peanut butter and banana variety. Oh, my, stick-to-the-gut kind of goodness:)
What a beautiful and wonderous day you had. We just finished making rose petal jam too. Isn’t it divine? Nothing better. enjoy your warm and sunny days.
I love that your laundry is hanging on the line. I wish we could do that here where I live. What a magical day!
Glad your sun came out, we’ve been having some horrible dreary days too, thankfully the sun came out in Germany yesterday! Time to head outside!
can i come live by your creek?
sounds like a perfect day.
Love the flowers and the sheets are really pretty. I love the colors in them. They remind me of some yellow sheets my Nana used to have.
I was beginning to think I lived in the only corner of the world where gray and cold replaced the seasonal colors and warmth as of lately! I’m glad you can enjoy better weather now. About the rose petal jam, it’s the first jam I ever made (I was a teenager, and it took a good long time before I made more)!
Lovely photos! Your little girls are precious, and a beautiful bouquet.
I love your bouquet of roses and mint! Bright pinks are my favorites for any flower. They just look so vibrant. And it looks like your girls were really enjoying their moon sand. My little boy LOVES his moon sand, especially using mini tractors to plow it like snow!
Herb harvesting happiness! Beautiful! Love the sheets too… Happy weekend!
looks wonderful!!! Araina is a force to be reckoned with!!! She is so cute!
have a great weekend

Love that last shot! That was me as a kid…always scrambing down the rocks to the water.
What a beautiful photo journal, lots of special memories shared. I have enjoyed looking around you site
That’s a lovely day Lisa and lovely flowers!
It looks like you had a lovely day, surrounded by so much greenery.
Oh what a creek – the best way to end a day!
Great sheets! I love when people find vintage deals almost as much as I love finding them myself! I am hoping to put up a retractable line (in defiance of my HOA) so I can join wash Wednesday. I miss sun scented laundry! I love your creek! That is one of the many things we lack in AZ. Bodies of water. Beautiful!
Love those sheets!!!!
Looks like a day well spent. Love the flowers — and the pull over by the side of the road picture.
“That’s all.” don’t you love it? So many little beautiful things all packed into one day. You are so lucky to spend your day with your girls. What a blessing you are to them!
so much beauty, Lisa. What an inspiration you are!
