dark rainy day

The rain just seems to keep falling.

Waiting at the Window
by A. A. Milne
(my favorite rainy day poem)

These are my two drops of rain
Waiting on the window-pane.

I am waiting here to see
Which the winning one will be.

Both of them have different names.
One is John and one is James.

All the best and all the worst
Comes from which of them is first.

James has just begun to ooze.
He’s the one I want to lose.

John is waiting to begin.
He’s the one I want to win.

James is going slowly on.
Something sort of sticks to John.

John is moving off at last.
James is going pretty fast.

John is rushing down the pane.
James is going slow again.

James has met a sort of smear.
John is getting very near.

Is he going fast enough?
(James has found a piece of fluff.)

John has quickly hurried by.
(James was talking to a fly.)

John is there, and John has won!
Look! I told you! Here’s the sun!

“That’s all.”

    Beautiful pictures!

Question – How do you get the photos rounded on the edges like that?

Please let me know – Great technique!

Didn’t know that poem – love it! I was travelling Tuesday with connecting flight through Chicago – so we were substantially delayed because of the storms. I was watching the rain patterns on the windows as they were streaming by when we were landing. Rain is often wonderful. Sun is more often welcome, I suppose, in this latitude. Hope you get some soon.

Your photographs are wonderful. I especially enjoyed the one of your daughter and dog looking out into the rain.
    Warm wishes.

Gorgeous photos and I love the poem. We’re having one of those rainy days today so my 3 year old is having a friend over for the day. If the thunder storm lets up then we’ll be heading outside to play in the mud which both these boys love love love :)

This whole week has been nothing but gray skies and rain. I am so sick of it. The poem definitely put a smile on my face in the midst of all the gloom.

I love that poem. I haven’t thought about it for years. It used to be one of my bedtime reads when I was little. I’m going to reread all the A. A. Milne poems. Thanks for the reminder.

Why doesn’t stop raining? Here in UK too.. I’m tired of so much water and cold.
Saying that, the picture of one of the girls and the dog is absolutely stunning. It does brighten any rainy day.

It has been quite dreary around Kansas too. It always makes me so tired when it gets like this.
That poem picked up my spirits a bit though. ;)
