favorite art supplies

Thought it would be fun to share our favorite craft supplies; our favorite go-tos when we need creative time. It’s funny, the three of us are quite different crafters when I think about it.

Araina’s favorite craft supplies are pipe-cleaners. She loves to manipulate her art by twisting and turning.  She is a “clean” crafter, prefers not to use glue or anything that might make her hands sticky or dirty.  She has loved pipe-cleaners since she was a wee one and has always been very good with manipulating them!

Araina has a special technique to making bunnies, dogs, and cats; she was teaching Fauna the technique step by step last night. The brown dog pictured below is Fauna’s; Araina doesn’t add eyes to her critters, she prefers them without.

Fauna’s favorite supplies are bright pom poms, felt, glue,

and googly eyes. She doesn’t mind sticky fingers, actually, I think she prefers them to be sticky, and her motto is- “the messier the better!”

Love these chicks Fauna made last night. The chick with the eyelashes is considered, “ohhh, so fancy!”

I’m pretty sure you all know my favorite supplies to work with- sweaters, felt, and vintage buttons. Here’s my cluttered work space from today-

I love the creative process and love seeing what comes out of it!!!!!!!

Creativity makes me think of this quote by Buckminster Fuller- There is nothing in a caterpillar that tells you it’s going to be a butterfly.  Ahh, this is so true!

Would love to know everyone’s favorite art supplies!

After reading this Celine had this to say “fabric, cardboard and hot glue”

The chick with eyelashes kills me! I LOVE it!

I love vintage paper, glitter and glue. :)
Noah’s favorite is a plain white sheet of paper and a sharp pencil.
    Love your girl’s creations!

OK, what your daughter can create from pipe cleaners is amazing. My kids saw her work, and are now sitting here begging for me to go and get some :)

My boys love clay. They enjoy the whole process of getting their hands into it, and watching it dry, and then being able to paint it. Hours of fun

I’ve found tissue paper ( “stained glass windows” with the aid of clear contact paper, the base for bowls glued to balloons) to be fun in different cases – but I never buy it, I save some from gifts that people give us. I am getting back into watercoloring with the help of my 3yr-old and I would like to start using wool roving.

I like anything reused. I love to see a project where someone has taken an item and given it new life as something else. I especially love it when that item is something that would have otherwise ended up in a landfill.

Agreed! those are our favorite art supplies, too. AND would you believe we just recently made little pom pom chicks exactly like that?! (then our cat tore them apart)

crafting is so much fun. Simple things like pipe cleaners can keep my kids happy for a very long time too!

We’ve also been loving the googly eyes. I think I’m going to do some felting today. Of course our favorite art supplies are just pencil and paper.

I always knew fauna was my long lost daughter! the messier the better. My faves are chalk pastel pencils, microns, anything I can collage, oil pastels, windsor inks and papers.

This is so funny – I was just commenting to my husband how the pipe cleaners in our house are driving me crazy! I feel like they’re everywhere and I never know what to do with the creations that come from them. I am working on being less of a fussy mom and more of a mom who can tolerate some creative chaos….

What a wonderful post! Wednesday’s favourite craft supply…glue. She doesn’t need to put anything in it or on it so long as she has glue. She uses glue sticks like markers and just likes to glob glue onto paper. Glitter glue is nice but not necessarily toddler friendly (you know squeezing out all the air first etc.) but she’ll use up a bottle of white glue if you let her.

Those pipe cleaner animals are great, I really should start buying up some pre-school + art books for Wednesday, soon enough she’ll want more than a bottle of white glue and paper!

I LOVE Mr. Fuller and all of his wisdom! For a while my little one was bound and determined to make a mini Fuller creation out of… anything! Thanks for sharing your favorites!

you know why i love this post? those were all things we used in on projects when i was growing up (i cannot bring myself to call them chenille sticks), but we don’t use any of them in our home, now, and should! what fun! i love old fabrics, sweaters, and buttons. my kids, lala especially (5yr) loves colored pencils, markers, glitter, glue, and more. my son (2yr) is still in play dough loving stage, but loves to cut fabric scraps, as well.

My kids both love to use pipe cleaners to make things. They also like those little wooden “game pieces” in people shapes.

I guess I’d have to say yarn. I live to knit! Princess loves pipe cleaners and glue and colored paper and crayons and well, everything. ;)

Well since I just spent almost my whole entire Sunday embroidering I guess I should say embroidery thread, I did many times today have thoughts of love towards it. There is just about every color imaginable, you can draw anything with it’s tiny stitches, too good… I am in love with wool too… the girls use wool and fabric all day long. They play these elaborate doll and house games always stopping along the way to make whatever they need. Lately they are making great use out of bits of beeswax too… I love Araina’s little bunnies, very sweet about your girls preferences for materials, and cleanliness or messiness…

Ani was just bemoaning the fact that all of our colored markers are running dry. She said “maybe we should stop drawing so we don’t have to buy soooo many pens!” I disagreed…so, pens, pencils, paper – those are probably the most used art supplies around here, though we love paints, felt, window crayons, ribbons, brads, hole punchers, chopsticks, staplers and….TAPE. tape, tape and more tape.

Fun! I loved seeing what you and the little ladies are working on. Elizabeth’s favorite is cardboard boxes, glue, colored pencils, fabric, actually, I can’t think of much she doesn’t enjoy working with on a weekly basis, at least. Finn loves his stockmar crayons, watercolors and colored pencils right now. Philip ONLY uses colored pencils and plain paper unless coerced. And Paulie is into making paper airplanes right now, so he’s into different weights and patterns of paper. There you have it, more than you ever wanted to know about the crafting over here right now! ;)

These photographs are just gorgeous and gets the creative juices flowing! I have such a soft spot for the pipe cleaner bunnies :) .

    DECOUPAGE medium!
    Paper punches
    glue gun

When I was reading this, Hunter came up and he said, “Wooooow.”

Maybe I need to get out the pipe cleaners and pom poms.
