spring birds to hang

Need to put some spring color into the last of the ho drum winter gray days? We sure need it here in Ohio! I posted a little pic of these birds a few weeks back, we made 100 of them for my Great Aunt’s 100th birthday. I had some questions on how we made them so here you have it…….

You need:
card-stock or thick handmade type paper
tissue paper cut into 4″ x 3 1/2″ rectangles
scissors
string and needle for optional hanger

To do:
1. Cut out a simple-shaped bird about 4″ long from beak to tail.

2. Accordion fold tissue paper (4″ x 3 1/2″).

3. Cut an 1″  horizontal slit into the middle of the bird and feed the tissue paper wings through very carefully.

4. Optional- using a needle and thread add a hanger to the nape of the bird for hanging. These birds float really nicely when hanging from a mobile or a tree branch. Or hide them here and there for little happy surprises! (Fauna and Robin hid them all over my grandparents’ house to bring smiles).

I found you by way of Until Wednesday Calls and was inspired by your little birds. So much that I had to make some with my girls! I springboarded off and made a bird mobile. I love it! Thank you for the inspiration!

I love how you suggest to cut a simple bird shape. I don’t think my bird shape would look nearly as cute as yours. :-) I bet everyone loved finding the hidden birds at your grandparents.
