spring birds to hang
Need to put some spring color into the last of the ho drum winter gray days? We sure need it here in Ohio! I posted a little pic of these birds a few weeks back, we made 100 of them for my Great Aunt’s 100th birthday. I had some questions on how we made them so here you have it…….
You need:
card-stock or thick handmade type paper
tissue paper cut into 4″ x 3 1/2″ rectangles
scissors
string and needle for optional hanger

To do:
1. Cut out a simple-shaped bird about 4″ long from beak to tail.

2. Accordion fold tissue paper (4″ x 3 1/2″).

3. Cut an 1″ horizontal slit into the middle of the bird and feed the tissue paper wings through very carefully.

4. Optional- using a needle and thread add a hanger to the nape of the bird for hanging. These birds float really nicely when hanging from a mobile or a tree branch. Or hide them here and there for little happy surprises! (Fauna and Robin hid them all over my grandparents’ house to bring smiles).

We made these and put them up at our May Faire.
I blogged about it here and linked back to this post.
Thank you for the idea!

I found you by way of Until Wednesday Calls and was inspired by your little birds. So much that I had to make some with my girls! I springboarded off and made a bird mobile. I love it! Thank you for the inspiration!
These birds are lovely! We will make some.
Oh I love these. What a perfect little treat to hang down over our eating table, or above the nature table. Thanks for a little bit of brightness is these last gray days.
Ooh! These are adorable! Now I know what we’re doing for a craft today!
what a great idea! I love the simplicity, and the vibrant impact they would make. I think we may NEED these for our spring table.
Thank you!
Amanda

So precious! We will definitely be adding this to our Spring projects!

I was just thinking this morning, that we needed some birds with tissue paper wings to spice things up a bit!! Funny
Thanks for the tutorial. I remember loving those when you originally posted them.
*gasp* I did no such thing!!!
I love how you suggest to cut a simple bird shape. I don’t think my bird shape would look nearly as cute as yours.
I bet everyone loved finding the hidden birds at your grandparents.
HA! Ivy, I wanted to include a pattern but I was having trouble with my scanner today. I’ll work on that!
Ooh, I like this idea very much! We want to do something special for spring, and this looks like fun. Thank you for sharing!
