Warm breath on a cold window.

Yearly picture standing in front of the snowy 30 year old spruce- the pic on the left is Jan. 2010, the one on the right is Jan. 2009.

Preparing to sled down the 8 ft. tall taxis shrubs covered in snow. Fauna looks forward to this every winter!

Araina prefers sitting and “just being” in the snow.

Taking lots of pics of the snow, love how the echinacea seed heads seem to be wearing little Cossack hats, how very Doctor Zhivago of them.

Then coming in and warming up with hot chocolate and making snow cream.

We’ve also be thinking of ways to use up the needles from the Yule tree; couple ideas come to mind, but that’s for a future post.

Now to make a big batch of veggie chili and cornbread!

What a beautiful day in the cold and snow….your house looks so warm and cozy Lisa! I love the looks of those echinacea skeletons with their hats on!

I’ve skipped the cottage cheese before and thrown in some shredded cheese, and it is still as yummy. Everyone who has eaten this loves it!

i agree with Organic Sister, I love to look at it, but oh my I hate to be cold. Looks like the girls love it though. I love your first photo. Something so simple that brings so much pleasure. Oh and your Cossack hats, they really do!

    Happy Winter!

I’m so happy that your girls are having lots of snow fun!! Looks like you got a good storm. We have a bay window in our livingroom, which is horribly un-insulating and is always fogged up. It is seriously one of my kids favorite things to do…draw on those windows. I remember doing that as a kid on the school bus windows on the way to school….it’s mesmerizing in some way.

    :) Lisa

Is there anything more fun than warm breath on a cold window?

    Lovely! Simple but cherished moments.

“how very Doctor Zhivago of them” – that cracks me up. I love the huge tree! I’d make a photo tradition in front of that tree too. Post your ideas on the yule needles soon. Our tree goes to the recycling chipper tomorrow. :-O

I love this post! I love the huge tree. I love the seed heads wearing their hats. I love Araina “just being” in the snow. You’re so lucky…we got a couple of inches, barely a dusting really. :(

Thank you for your comments on my surgery post. I so appreciate them. And, you’re right about my positive attitude…but, you are also very wise to sense there is reason to be teary. The truth is…I’m terrified. I am absolutely terrified. I am a person who never gets sick (literally, I get one cold a year–if that). Until I had my mediport placed (for chemotherapy) I had never had any kind of surgical procedure requiring sedation. Until the birth of Benjamin I had nevr stayed overnight in a hospital. I am not used to this kind of thing–and now, I’m going through three major surgeries simultaneously?!?!

So, your comment came at just the right time. You are such a dear, dear friend. I am so overjoyed to have found you in this big, wide world. :)

That tree is amazing! Max’s newest snow pastime is to try and talk our dogs into becoming “mush dogs” as he stands, ever so determined, on a sled, holding leashes. So far, they have taken his bribes (his homemade dog treats) and ran;) Simple pleasures get us through the winter, don’t they?

  20. January 8, 2010

Happy New Year. Can’t wait to see what you do with the needles.

  21. January 8, 2010

That chili was really good! Perfect way to end a snowy day.

  22. January 8, 2010

Love your photo of coneflower seedheads. I took a similar picture that sisn’t make my blog (yours is far superior!), but sis include some Queen Anne’s Lace. Your pictures are wonderful.

i love that first set of picts. very artsy. i know you mentioned this before, but what’s the website you used to change your picts around (corners fading etc).

Snow always *looks* like so much fun. I wish I wasn’t such a wussy. ;)
