this week and the new year

This week so far has been about……..

Sending out the old (donating A LOT of stuff) and organizing (once again).

Having wonderful talks with my sisters; oh, without them I wouldn’t have a clue how to ground myself.

Drinking hot cocoa with peppermint sticks in front of a cozy fire.

hot cocoa

Spending gift certificates on books and food.

Watching Masterpiece Theatre’s Cranford and Little Dorrit (and a fantastic PBS biography on Louisa May Alcott).

Helping little sisters on the scooter in the snow….in new jammies that have been washed every day since Christmas Eve, oh so hard to wear anything else this week!

sister help

Reading up all we can and trying to unicycle because Grandad and Kay got Fauna a special one-wheeled toy!

Practicing new stitches and new ways to sew sweater pieces together; thinking about making a quilt of sweater squares.

Making patterns and sewing on her very own machine.

Spending time with out of town friends.

Lots of contemplating about what exactly to do with this blog and my future…..go in a new direction? try to write a book? write about what exactly?

And cheering on the New Year with some blue bubbles! Cheers to the wonderful new friends, strangers, old friends, and family! Hope 2010 is a good one!

happy new year

Sounds like a wonderful way to send out the year. We have a pair of Old Navy lounge pants that are being worn daily around here. And I’m a little jealous of your sister talks but I’m lucky to have friends who help keep me grounded. Thank you for this blog. Whatever direction you take it, I’m confident it will be fabulous.

    Happy 2010!

We’ve been enjoying hot cocoa with peppermint sticks in my mom’s “Candy Cane” room–Benjamin LOVES peppermint sticks.

Oh! I do love donating stuff–as you know, I’ve been doing a lot of de-cluttering!

We’ve happily spent some GCs, too–I have one for Jo-Ann Fabric I’m excited to spend (but haven’t decided on what yet!)

Love that the girls are so happy in their new jammies–yea for new jammies!!!

Thinking about taking the blog in a new direction, eh? It seems this is the time of year to do so–I tend to start new ones every year! LOL. I wish I could just settle on a place & make a blog that sticks!

    I’m a goof!

I wish you and your family a HAPPY 2010 !!! xo

My boys got a sewing machine last Christmas, and they just adore it. It is much easier than the frustrations that come with sharing machines with busy sewing mamas. I hope that she enjoys, and that you all had a wonderful New Year, and a great year ahead

What a wonderful way to spend a week! Thank you for sharing with us! I’m also curious what kind of sewing machine that is…my daughter will be 9 in February and sews like a fiend and has been talking about her own machine.

She has a Brother XL-2600i. It’s a pretty simple machine and she is really good at navigating her way around it. I have very little experience with a sewing machine so she can’t really depend on me for help. She takes sewing lessons and has learned A LOT in a short amount of time, she has learned enough to feel confident on this machine.

Happy New Year! It’s great that your daughter is sewing. Both of my kids love to sew by hand and I’d love to get them a machine. Are you willing to share how old your daughter is and what machine you got her? I have a 8 1/2 year old son and nearly 7 year old daughter and I’m wondering if this might be right for them. Best wishes for 2010!

What a treat it it so spend these few moments with you! And how wonderful that you’ve spent such special times with your sister this week. I miss my “sisters” like you and other wise and wonderful friends that I’ve met through blogging so much. I can’t think of a book I’d rather read than yours! :-) I wish you the very best in the new year as you get ready for your big move (presuming it’s still happening) and all the transitions that 2010 brings. Love and light to you, JJ

This is me keeping you “grounded” Write a book….Write a book….Write a book….! I think it should be about everday happenings with the girls…experiments, herbal fun, cooking and crafts!

Happy New Year! I love the picture of your little lady sewing. I like the idea of a quilt of sweater squares. I have a quilt top of wool pieces (bought, not made by me) and I love it. As for your blog, I would love to hear more about what to do with herbs. I know that it’s winter and that for most of us, gardens are under at least a little bit of snow, but for those of us who have potted herbs inside, or dried herbs, I would love a little bit of herbal lore. Also, if you do write a book, I would certainly read it. :)

    Ah lovely lovely days Lisa!
Yes isn’t it the time literally to “out with the old”. There’s a bit of that going on here as well.
And Fauna has her own machine!? Wow I can’t wait to see what delights she creates with that!

ah, happy new year to you!!!! so good to have those sisters. mine is keeping me company as well this week. soak it up! i wish fauna could give E some lessons on the machine – she got a “kid’s” machine and i’m hoping it does not frustrate her – she is excellent at hand-sewing and i imagine she’ll just go back to it if this is too difficult, but i have no machine skills to pass on to her!

enjoy the blue moon (if you can see it. )!
