homemade goodness
Here are a few of the homemade goodies given this year by my side of the family.
-A hedgehog family and their home made by my mom for the little ladies.
-A Field Book of Ohio Flora and Fauna to record as we see them; handmade by my sister Katrina and her husband Matt. These guides include a separate section for wildflowers, butterflies and skippers, reptiles and amphibians, birds, trees, and rare and endangered flora and fauna. It also has blank paper for sketching and a big pocket on the front cover for keeping natures’ treasures.
Whenever we see a particular plant or animal that is listed in the book, we write the date and location down beside it; in hopes of filling the entire book one day. They made one for each of the little ladies, my sister Robin, and myself. Katrina bound the books by hand-sewing the pages together. They are amazing and are going with us EVERYWHERE!
-A special gift to Araina, from Robin, is this vintage sewing basket full of sewing goodies. The perfect way to encourage more handmade!
Araina LOVES the heart pins that were included,
and a homemade pin cushion (also included in the basket were colorful needles and fabric).
Throwing in some pics of their Solstice gifts….warm and cozy ear-flap hats (not homemade, but very necessary). Perfect for today’s super cold and snowy weather! Provide them with appropriate outdoor gear and the little ladies will continue to go outdoors no matter the weather!
More homemade goodies to come!

That book is amazing! What a cool gift! I meant to tell you that I saw the book below when I was in Asheville and it made me think of you. I’m sure you’ve already seen that line of books before, but they were new to me. And SO cute!

Oh that hedgehog family! That is just too precious. How lovely to be gifted with so many handmade treats. Hope your holiday was wonderful
Wow! Those are some really great gifts! The books are super impressive! Makes me wish I had some little girls to make for. LOL, I have to come up with wooden weapons or things used for killings or maimings, and occasionally, the more meek treasure hunting.
Hope you had a blessed Christmas.

All I can say is Wow! All that craftiness in your family. I love it! I hope you and the ladies find everything in your books. I think they looked adorable in the hats too. Such nature girls.

I am still trying to find some type of needlework that will inspire Princess. My next idea is some plastic needlepoint canvas or some printed cross stitch.

what great gifts! i have to say i’d DIE for one of those field books! i cannot even imagine how much time went into making them!!! how blessed you are all to have such talent in your family!!!
It’s funny every time I talked to her on the phone last week she was in the middle of “holiday makings.” She put hours and hours into these field books. I can’t even estimate how many names (latin included) have been typed for this book!
Well now we see where you get it from. My goodness. Everything is so sweet, but I especially like the field guides. She must have put so much time and energy into those. Oh, and that sewing basket is perfect!!!
Craftiness must run in the genes! All of it is wonderful! I am glad you had a nice time!
Have a great week!
~Karen
