Praying Mantis

This fascinating creature and I had quite a conversation this evening. She had a lot of wisdom to share, but I pinkie swore not to tell. I guess this wisdom can only be told by praying mantis to human, not human to human. So if you want to know what the wisdom was you must ask one yourself.

I had her full attention for quite a while; then we admired the goldenrod together.

Until she eventually turned and walked away.

*I have had a few people ask me lately about the camera I use. It’s a Canon Rebel XSi; I use the lens that comes with it. I LOVE this camera and highly recommend it, but still have a lot to learn and am hoping for new lenses come the holidays. Have a beautiful weekend!

Lovely! We had a pair of praying mantis sitting in my flower bed, right outside the door. i’ve been watching them for days, expecting that they will mate soon. Then on Monday, one of chickens ate the male! Doh! i have no idea what this means for the female who has a very swollen abdomen. i don’t think they mated yet, since the male was still hanging around.
Last summer we witnessed a pair mating, and then the female laid her egg cases in our flowerbed and we watched them hatch this past spring. It was really neat, and of course i took lots of pictures. The babies were so incredibly tiny. :)

    Love your blog!

    Hi Lisa
    The first picture is amazing!
Here in the Netherlands I have every night a conversation with a katydid.
I do not like his stories, because I get goosebumps.
    Have a nice Sunnyday!

Your photos are beautiful and Canon cameras ROCK. I got one in July. Now if I could just remember to wipe the finger print off the lens my pictures would look so much better.

I’m not sure how praying mantis would do here but I’ve thought about trying to get some eggs for my garden next year! Your photos are great, Lisa!

I saw a praying mantis today too. Our conversation was short and she was quite abrupt with me!

I always feel like they’re looking at us and laughing. Like it’s some inside joke that we’re human. :) Great pictures! Hope your weekend is going well. I went to the Maryland State Fair today and had a wonderful time. Will post about it as soon as I get the pictures downloaded. xxoo
