Obsessive Furniture Mover!
2009 August 22
I am one of those people that is constantly moving my furniture around. I am very obsessive about this. We live in a 1970s style tri-level with looooooong rectangular rooms and I just have never been happy with how my furniture fits into these long rectangular rooms. The biggest problem with this obsession is the fact that we have a lot of books, so books have to come off the shelves to move the bookcases. Right now we have a line of books piled high down the middle of our “creative room.” Hopefully I will make it out of this room alive………..

I like to pretend that books stacked in every conceivable corner, nook, cranny, and next to every chair and bed is a design strategy. Really it is just because I don’t have enough bookshelves, don’t know where to put them if I had them, and would constantly be moving them around too!
I am a furniture mover too!! My house was built in 1984, and I still can’t get my head around how to fit the living room the best!!
We are selling the house (finally), and will be renting whilst I go back to school, and this time I am going for a boring cookie-cutter house so my energies will no longer be wasted
WOW! You have are very creative i would have never thought of that in a million years. What a great idea and pretty too. Thanks for sharing!
Sorry…I posted on the wrong entry…that was supposed to be for the acor jewelry.
These are so cute! Thanks for sharing!
i do this, too. And i’m always thinking about it. One year my friend gave me a “Rearrange-o-matic” for Christmas. It was a cardboard box with paper furniture cutouts so i could rearrange without actually moving the heavy stuff. Thanks for sharing your passion!
We’ve weeded out many of the hard cover picture books that Noah no longer looks at. Now we have lighter weight chapter books piling up.
I love to move furniture around too. Makes my husband groan!
LOL! I can so relate! I’m not only constantly moving my furniture, but I also like to reorganize the books quite often. Good luck!
I don’t move furniture. But this makes me want to go book shopping!
I don’t do this as much as I used to. I grew out of it to some extent because the furniture got heavier, and it became much harder to constantly rearrange.
Too many books is a good problem to have!
It was great to hear from you! I’ve haven’t journeyed much into blogland lately. Trying to cut back and take a little break. Can’t wait to see what you girls have been up to! Love the new look of the blog!
Happy Day!
I think furniture moving represents how much our family changes over time. I move things around because my families’ needs change, they become interested in something new. Things shift in our family. So too does our furniture. It’s just a sign that you’re alive!
We recently moved some bookshelves, and the girls really enjoyed rediscovering books they hadn’t looked at in a long while.
Seriously people Lisa is always moving stuff around. I cannot keep up with the visits to see the newly styled 70’s pad. By the way big sis, I would be more than happy to take some of those books off your hands
p.s. do I get extra credit for reading your blog after you told me about it.
This is the second post I’ve read recently about moving furniture. Must be that time of the year!
So funny–I used to always do this, too. If you can’t get new furniture, I reasoned, you can still feel like you have a new room if you move the furniture.
When we were looking for our home, I always said I’d buy any kind of house except a 1970s house, and we wanted an upstairs and basement. So we ended up in a 1970s ranch without a basement. But we really bought our home for the woods, land, and creek. (I think trilevels are cool, however!).
Good luck with this, Lisa! I hope you’ll be satisfied with the result! Thank you for leaving the feedback about my trees, it is interesting to see how people react to them.
I also do the same. My room change each two months. I boy new things and I throw away a lot of old things. I keep too many things…
Nice Sunday!
I also rearrange all the time. When I was a kid and was sick I would rearrange my room, toys, whatever to take my mind off my illness. So, it’s therapy, cleaning and feng shui all in one! Enjoy!
My husband is making me comment again to share that he always jokes about my furniture rearranging. He says I should start a business incorporating another love of mine- organising. It’s be called Annie’s Sift and Shift Service or Annie’s Whip and Chuck Service (I purge too much apparently) Annie’s Heave and Huck Service and his favourite, Annie’s Guess What Service because Lily always says “Guess What?!” too him when he gets home and I’ve rearranged.
Ha! I love rearranging furniture and I love books! You should take before and after shots!
I rearrange all the time. I used to do it as a kid too. My girls do the same thing and rearrange the doll furniture and their own shelf “displays” all the time. I’ve rearranged E’s room 4 times since we moved in 2 years ago, C’s room three times, my art studio twice, the playroom 6 times, the family room three or four times, and the guest room three or four times. Thank goodness for furniture sliders and my willingness to stack and un-stack bookcases!! I really do think we were separated at birth ; )
I do this too….I have been sitting in the middle of our school/playroom at night lately wondering how I can rearrange it to my liking….Our spare room is a mess of furniture at the moment too
My husband would revolt. lol
Piles of books make me happy.
