O’ Dandelion Song
2009 May 3
O’ DANDELION
O’ Dandelion, yellow as gold, what do you do all day?
“I just wait here in the tall, green grass, ’till the children come to play.”
“I just wait here in the tall, green grass, ’till the children come to play.”
O’ Dandelion, yellow as gold, what do you do all night?
“I wait and wait, while the cool dew falls, and my hair grows long and white.”
“I wait and wait, while the cool dew falls, and my hair grows long and white.”
And what do you do when your hair grows white, and the children come to play?
“They take me in their dimpled hands, and blow my hair away!”
“They take me in their dimpled hands, and blow my hair away!”

This poem is in my Grandfather’s school book. The Ontario Readers Primer.
Allergic to dandelions myself I still enjoyed the poem
What a cute song! I’m so enjoying all the dandelion inspiration
Beautiful verse!
Have to bookmark this one!
We love this song. We sing it each year when the dandelions come up. It is from the Sing Through The Day: eighty songs for children book and CD set by Marlys Swinger.
Fantastic!
I love dandelions. I made dandelion syrup. Unfortunately I coocked it too long… it’s not longer syrup. So every time I use it, I have to warm it up first.
Hello I just wanted to let you know I appreciate your blog and posted about it in my weekly blog love: http://gatherroundtheoldoaktree.blogspot.com/2009/05/blog-love-5409.html
I’ve also been enjoying all the dandelion love over at The Magic Onion. Beautiful photos!
Cute song. Thanks for sharing. Your pictures are perfect.
Hey Lisa- I was surrounded by dandelions this entire weekend! Can you believe that Jorge´s mother has made dandelion syrup? I´m so out of the loop! Now I´m off to check out your cookie recipe. Hugs! Jane
So sweet and I see by the looks of things you and your girls have been bored and unproductive
Don’t know how you do it…but I thank you for all the inspiration!
Cheers
you know the tune to this one? If you have the Wynstones Summer Book, the tune is in there and it really is lovely. Also, the Living Crafts magazine spring issue has a wonderful dandelion story to be told with puppets. I simply adore dandelions.
Wow, I love that last “action shot” of the puffs blowing away.
I finally got some snaps of our sparse dandelion crop here…. you have lots and lots of the beauties!!
That is lovely. It must be a lot warmer over where you live. I don’t think I have seen any dandelion puffs (not sure what to call them)yet.
