Making Floral Water

2009 April 4
by 5 Orange Potatoes

What do you get when you take hyacinths,

Lavender, water, essential oil, and any other sweet smelling plants?

Why floral water of course!

Pick your favorite sweet smelling springy scents, bruise them up a bit and put them into a giant test tube.

Add water and a few drops of your favorite essential oil. Screw on the lid tightly and shake.

Then a little dab will do ya!

MMMMM, smells great!

Turning the tube upside down is also quite fascinating to watch!

This floral water doesn’t keep very long, you would need to strain out the plants. You don’t have to use essential oils either, especially if you are using a potent flower or herb.

I think I will do that but my dad will have to find some viles to do them in

Great idea! I’m thinking that this would be fun for my son to do as Mother Day gifts for his grandmothers.

We love those tubes from Steve Spangler too! We bought them with some polymer water balls that are a ton of fun.

This is so sweet! I don’t have big test tubes but I have some large water picks for the rose stems when you buy roses. I think they would work. As soon as our flowers appear I want to try this. It’s right up Sierra’s alley!

Thanks so much for all your great posts. I LOVE your blog!

I wanna play. I’m going to make some lavender water– how do you think it would be if I dumped it into the wash with my sheets?

We’ll have to try this. I don’t have any test tubes like that, but I do have small glass honey bottles that would probably work. Elizabeth would love some floral water. :)

Shady, no you don’t need the essential oils, especially if you have a potent smelling flower or herb, my girls just put EOs in everything they get a chance to.

    Your girls are just beautiful!

Those test tubes are great. I got mine from Oriental Trading Company.

I was wondering if you could acheive the same results without the essential oils, but maybe more flowers??

Have I mentioned before how beautiful I think your daughters are?

This is one of the things I could make… today…. IF I had the test tubes or similar containers. BUT I don’t. Damn it!
