Nature’s Valentines

2009 February 13
by 5 Orange Potatoes

We went on a scavenger hunt today….for hearts created by nature. Some hearts were created by us too.

Do you see the little heart shaped lichen here?

We couldn’t resist putting our Christmas cranberries left for the birds into the shape of a heart.

R made a heart of sticks…….

A chipmunk left this one behind….

F found these three made out of leaves…..

A little tree stump seat in the ladies’ fairy cottage…..
We call rocks shaped in a heart fairy money….

A made this heart out of pinecones…..

A fluffy heart made of seeds……
F made a heart using the shadow of her hands…….

A wanted to look through her hand heart…..

The ladies send Happy Valentine’s Wishes (while munching on white pine needles).

Happy Valentine’s Day!!!!

Thank you so much for these wonderful ideas! I am searching for ideas for our nature club (made up of students from k-3 through 5th grade) and I believe that this will hold the attention of all of the different ages!

Wonderful images of nature’s valentines. You all have very keen eyes to pick out some of those, especially the lichen.

I am eager to try this with my family.

We just spent the afternoon out in the woods counting birds for National Backyard Bird Count weekend. I so wish I had seen this post before we left. It would have been so fun to add this idea to our days adventure. Next year!
